Homecoming planning and preparation is in full swing at Key West High School.

Class executive boards meet every week after school or during lunch in their sponsor’s classroom. The theme for homecoming this year is “A Conch Fairytale” and the school is buzzing about the parade, spirit days, crowning the homecoming queen and the dance — all of which kick off Monday, Oct. 23 with Senior Toga Day, followed by the traditional homecoming parade.

Due to ongoing construction at Tommy Roberts Memorial Stadium, the parade route will be in reverse this year. Beginning at 6 p.m., the parade will start on Kennedy Drive and head toward Flagler Avenue. It will turn right on Flagler and end at Key West High School’s Backyard for a Spirit Night celebration. The community is encouraged to come out and support the annual event.

Each class will ride on a flatbed truck donated by Arnold’s Towing, in costumes and handheld props. Once they reach the high school, they will perform skits in front of the community in the Backyard. School officials hope the evening promotes safety and spirit, while maintaining the magic and tradition of this Key West High School homecoming event.

The week ends with a Conch football game on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Backyard at Key West High School, where the crowning of the 2023 homecoming queen will take place at halftime.
