MARATHON SHRINE CLUB RAISES MORE THAN $36,000

The Marathon Shrine Club raised more than $36,000 during its annual charity drive. CONTRIBUTED.

The Marathon Shrine Club thanked the citizens, visitors and Shriners of the Middle Keys for their continuing support of their Shriners Charity Drive held on Feb. 19.

The club extends a special thanks to Beall’s department store, Winn-Dixie, Driftwood Pizza, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department Marathon Substation, Jerry Mayotte, and Bill and Janet Schnyder. They also thank the Masons who lent a hand with the collections and Marathon Shrine Club president Joseph Stickney.

Every penny collected goes to the support of Shriners Hospitals and the Transportation Fund at Mahi Temple. These funds are used exclusively to transport Keys and South Florida children to the Shrine Hospital in Tampa or to one of the other Shrine Hospitals scattered around the country. At these hospitals, children are given free state-of-the art orthopedic care and burn treatment. The Transportation Fund ensures that the children are able to get to the hospitals for their care and follow-up treatment without any cost.

Local support helps the club continue to make sure that this charity serves children today and in the coming years. The generosity of donors helped the club raise over $36,000 this year.

Any Marathon residents who know of a child under the age of 18 who could benefit from orthopedic, spinal cord or burn treatment are encouraged to call a Shriner at 800-237-5055.
