Did it or didn’t it? At the start of the pandemic back in March, there were lots of smirks and tongue-in-cheek comments about how the quarantine would produce the next baby boom in the U.S. However, think tanks said the coronavirus would produce the exact opposite — a decline in birth as families worried about the economy and struggled to homeschool the children they already had it.
In the Keys, we do things a bit differently. Throw a baby rattle in Marathon and you’re going to hit a pregnant lady. Or, at least, it seems like that. Plus, it’s too much fun to dream up names for this baby boom — “coronials” or, when they hit puberty, “quaranteens.”
It’s an odd time to be pregnant, for sure. Jeanine D’Amico said she’s gone so long without seeing people that the next time she meets them she will be a mother.
“All of the sudden I am going to be holding a baby and some of them didn’t even know I was pregnant,” said D’Amico.
The Keys Weekly caught up with these five to take a picture of the burgeoning bumps and ask some questions.
