MARATHON NEIGHBOR OF THE WEEK: BRITTANY BERMUDEZ

No matter how many individuals appear in the pages of each edition of Keys Weekly, there are always so many more of our community members who deserve to be recognized. In an effort to shine a spotlight on more of the incredible individuals who live and work in these islands, Keys Weekly is proud to present our Neighbor of the Week feature, dedicated to celebrating a community member with each issue.

Our neighbor of the week is Britanny Bermudez. She currently works with J&Y Marble & Granite Design, where she helps people choose their dream countertops and bring their visions to life. In her free time, she enjoys reading dystopian and thriller novels and spending time at the beach.

BRITTANY BERMUDEZ

J&Y Marble & Granite Design

How long have you been in the Keys and what brought you here? I’ve been in the Keys for a little over two years. I moved here to be closer to my mom.

What’s one thing that appears on many menus, but that you will never try? Deep-fried Key lime pie. I don’t want oil on my dessert.

What would your dream kitchen look like? I’d want a kitchen that feels authentic and lived-in rather than a sterile showroom. It would be a welcoming space filled with music and guests who never want to leave because every detail has its own story. Definitely colorful and vibrant.

What’s something you’re way more opinionated about than you probably should be? People who stop in the middle of grocery store aisles with zero awareness of anyone around them. Also, books are always better than movie adaptations.

What’s something you absolutely refuse to learn how to do? Folding fitted sheets correctly.

Tile, marble, granite, concrete, other? Why? It depends on the area of the home, but I would go with granite. It’s non-porous and doesn’t stain like marble.

If you had a time machine, would you travel to the future or to the past and why? The past, so I could meet younger versions of my family members and hear their stories firsthand.

What kid’s movie is scary to you and why? “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.” The monsters are real and horrifying in this one.

If you could be any type and color of kitchen countertop, what would you be and why? How does it describe your character? Marble — beautiful, dramatic, high-maintenance and slightly emotionally unstable.

What is one thing you always have with you? I always have hand lotion and hand sanitizer.

What dessert could you eat every day and why? Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream. I just love the taste of fudge brownie.

What conspiracy theory do you feel is actually true and why? Big Brother is watching you!

What’s a secret about you that people might be surprised to learn? I rehearse fake arguments in my head, and I’m more sentimental than people think.
