Marathon Mayor Lynny Del Gaizo and fire inspector Mike Card were the first two official opponents across the net as the city opened its four new pickleball courts in Oceanfront Park on June 29.
The four courts are now available for public use, adding a dedicated pickleball center for the city on top of the multi-use courts at Marathon Community Park. The facility, which includes landscaping and tiki huts to shade resting players, came in at a final cost of $350,000 – down from an estimated $500,000 due to the use of solar-powered lighting fixtures. Work was completed by Discount Rock and Sand, which was awarded the contract for the build in October 2025.
At press time, hours for the courts mirror the sunrise-to-sunset hours of Oceanfront Park, but may be changed later in the year if approved by staff and the city council, Marathon officials told the Weekly.
The Oceanfront Park dog park, also currently undergoing renovation, is nearly complete and due to open in July.
