Community members are invited to a series of monthly cleanups in the Upper Keys in honor of the late Pascal Weisberger.
On Saturday, March 14, a cleanup organized by Pascal’s father, Ari Poholek, and fellow members of Pascal’s Way will take to the trail across from Founders Park at 87001-87185 Old Highway in Islamorada. This cleanup, which is slated to begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon, was inspired by the Pascal’s Way movement to honor the young boy who was dedicated to service and community action. He was also a big advocate for the environment, often conducting cleanups at Harry Harris Park.
Pascal tragically passed away in May 2020. He fought for the environment, adored pets and gave everything he had to his Upper Keys community.
The mission continues as a group of community members host monthly cleanups every second Saturday of the month at places like Harry Harris and Old Settler parks in Tavernier, and also the trail along the Old Highway across from Founders.
“In past years it had regularly been cleaned by Treasure Village Montessori on Pascal’s Day of Service,” Poholek said. “Our group plans to start regularly cleaning it up in a rotation with the other parks. We are also going to begin an effort to advocate for it to eventually turn it into a recognized preserve named after Pascal.”
Those coming out for the cleanup should bring gloves, reusable water bottle, sunscreen and hat. Trash bags, extra gloves and refreshments will be provided to volunteers.
