A 49-year-old Homestead man working as a security guard was arrested on April 4 after he allegedly pointed a handgun at a man fishing from a dock at an Islamorada marina.

Three men interviewed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office stated they were fishing at a marina on the 81000 block of the Overseas Highway at approximately 1:10 a.m. One of the anglers said a security guard, later identified as Sylvain Nicanor, approached him while yelling and pointing a firearm.

Nicanor allegedly grabbed the victim’s fishing rod and attempted to block the three men’s vehicle as they were leaving the scene. Camera footage from a docked vessel corroborated the three angler’s narrative. Nicanor was in possession of a 9mm handgun, which was identified as the firearm used to threaten one of the anglers.

Nicanor was taken to jail. He’s facing charges of aggravated assault, robbery, battery and false imprisonment.
