HISTORY OF CUBA & EAST COAST RAILWAY HIGHLIGHT MATECUMBE HISTORICAL TRUST’S LECTURES

The Matecumbe Historical Trust and The Historic San Carlos Institute will give free presentations on Friday, March 4, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Island Community Church, 83259 Overseas Highway, Islamorada, MM 83. The presentations include “Welcome to the Florida Keys, a Brief History of Cuba and Florida and a View of Its Future – Seize the Moment,” by Rafael A. Penalver, president of San Carlos Institute; an audio-visual presentation of “Florida’s Growth: A Vision of Giants” and “The Florida East Coast Railway, the 1935 Hurricane and Overseas Highway,” presented by Seth Bramson, author and lecturer on Florida history. Bramson is the official historian of the Florida East Coast Railway.
