MARATHON FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY HOSTS FIRST BOOK SALE

Hundreds of books await new homes at the Marathon Friends of the Library’s book sale. PATTI CHILDRESS/Keys Weekly.

About one year ago, the Monroe County BOCC approved a memorandum of understanding with the Marathon Friends of the Library (MFOL). The MFOL’s mission is to raise money and public awareness to support the services and programs of the Marathon branch of the Monroe County Public Library. The group’s book sale on May 12-14 was the first of many such events. Money raised will go toward prizes and snacks for the popular children’s summer reading program, among other initiatives. Youngsters attending the sale also received a special surprise thanks to Elise Mucha, who bought all of the available children’s books and donated them back to be distributed to kids free of charge. The book sale would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication and help of Bruce Rumage. With more than 13 years of experience and many, many hours of collecting and sorting donated books, Rumage was indispensable. The book sale also would not have been a success without MFOL’s members and volunteers. Those interested in becoming a member of the Marathon Friends of the Library or discussing new avenues to support the library can contact MFOL by email at mfol33050@gmail.com.
