The Frederick Douglass Community Center Museum, 111 Olivia St., Key West, will celebrate its official grand opening with an all-day community open house from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m on Thursday, Oct. 15.
A community welcome with a continental breakfast will start at 10 a.m.
A meet-and-greet will start at 4:30 p.m. featuring light refreshments and an opportunity for community members, former students, supporters, volunteers and visitors to gather and reconnect in the newly reimagined space that houses the Frederick Douglass School Black Educators Memorial Project.
The official grand opening will be celebrated at 6 p.m. with an introduction of the museum and a presentation of its history and purpose. Guest speakers include Mayor Sam Kaufman, District 6 commissioner Aaron Castillo, former commissioner Clayton Lopez, Bahama Village redevelopment advisory committee chair Patricia Eable and Key West Poet Laureate Arida Davis-Wright.
