A Stock Island father and son were arrested on Thursday by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations detectives and the SWAT team following a residential search warrant on 8th Avenue in which three firearms, fentanyl, methamphetamine were found.
The sheriff’s office found 6.7 grams of fentanyl, 2.6 grams of methamphetamine, an AR-15 rifle, a .30-caliber rifle, and a 9mm handgun as well as ammunition. Electronic scales, baggies, and equipment used to heat or “cook” narcotics were also found. The suspects, 35-year-old Julio Huecas Laukkanen Jr. and 68-year-old Julio Huecas Laukkanen Sr. were arrested and taken to jail.
Laukkanen Jr., 35, was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of amphetamine, manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and keeping a public nuisance dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing and delivering controlled substances.
Laukkanen Sr., 68, was charged with possession of amphetamine, manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and keeping a public nuisance dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing and delivering controlled substances.
The case remains under investigation. More arrests and additional charges may be pending.
