Final Splash: Key West swim seniors shine in final CFK home meet

Senior Filip Hrabec breaks his personal bests in the 100-yard breaststroke as his teammates cheer him on.

The Key West swimming program celebrated its seniors on Sept. 26 at the College of the Florida Keys pool, honoring the Conchs and Lady Conchs making their final home appearance of the season.

Seniors Kennedy Morgan and Mary Searcy represented the Lady Conchs, while Santiago Gonzalez, Andres Aguero, William Gjerding, Hugo Blinckmann and Filip Hrabec were honored for the boys.

Several made the most of their final races in home waters. Gonzalez swam away with a win in the 100-yard freestyle, touching in 51.97 seconds, while Blinckmann made his final home 50 free a memorable one, winning a thriller in 23.87, just two hundredths of a second ahead of the runner-up. The two teamed up later with Max Blinckmann and Hrabec to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.29.

Hrabec added an individual Senior Night victory of his own, claiming the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.03. Aguero turned in a pair of strong swims, finishing fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.25 and fourth in the 500 freestyle in 6:37.
