The College of the Florida Keys will hold its 12th annual Community Day on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Key West campus. The event offers live performances, children’s activities, interactive exhibits and free food and T-shirts.

“CFK Community Day is our way of saying thank you to our Keys’ community,” said Jared Ochs, CFK’s interim president. “This is a chance for families, friends, and neighbors to visit the campus, meet our faculty, staff, students and partners, and see firsthand the opportunities available in our own backyard.”

Visitors can explore academic and workforce education programs, watch performances by local youth dance troupes, and visit interactive exhibits from the college’s partner organizations and government agencies.

The college will open its new “Dream STEM” mobile lab for the first time on Community Day. Kids of all ages will be able to explore the 32-foot, solar-powered lab packed with virtual reality headsets, microscopes, 3-D printers, renewable energy demonstrations and hands-on discovery stations. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.

Just days before Veterans Day, Ochs will lead the college’s traditional salute to veterans and military service members.

Guests are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to support Tuga Shelves, CFK’s food pantry for students experiencing food insecurity.

The event’s sponsors include Essential Net Solutions, First Horizon Bank, Florida Keys Media, the Keys Citizen, the Key West Weekly, and Magnum Broadcasting Inc.
