The Florida Keys Council of the Arts and the City of Key West Art in Public Places Committee recently announced the installation of five new sculptures at the Duval Street Pocket Park, all created by artists from Monroe County.

The works were selected from a competitive application process, and are available for purchase from the individual artists while they’re on display.

“This is a wonderful asset to our community, which truly allows everyone access to the arts,” said arts council executive director Liz Young.

The following artists and their works are all on display: Adam Russell created “Red Obelisk”; Trish Pleasant created “Hawksbill Reef”; Bill Lorraine created “Ann’s Girl”; Tim Marshall Curtis created “Cetacean {Fishtrick)” and Paola Effio created “Catfish.”

There are plans to add a sixth sculpture by artist John Martini at a later date. Also gracing the pocket park is a series of artistic benches, created by artist Colin Selig, made from recycled propane tanks. The benches are brightly colored, adding a whimsical, tropical splash of color to the public seating. The new art is at the pocket park that was sponsored by business owner Michael Halpern at t1400 Duval St., between the Southernmost House and Southernmost Beach Cafe.
