A 37-year-old Key West man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly broke into Pigeon Key and attempted to steal several items from employees.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Pigeon Key at approximately 1:15 a.m. after a man, later identified as Nicholas Robert Matott, reportedly jumped the gate on the Old Seven Mile Bridge and caused a motion light to activate. Matott reportedly refused to leave after he was told the property was closed. He began to scream and pace.

Responding deputies found Matott hiding under a nearby structure. He had a cell phone and charger that belonged to someone else at the property.

Matott was taken to jail and charged with multiple counts of burglary. More charges may be pending.
