The $12 million athletic fields for Marathon High School are almost complete. It was a vast project completed over the summer, in time for the start of the new school year on Wednesday, Aug. 14. In addition to a new combination football and soccer field, there’s a regulation-size track, practice field, bleachers, a press box, separate softball and baseball fields and two — yes, two — concession stands. Oh, and the gym has a brand new floor for the basketball and volleyball teams. The front of the school has been reconfigured to add student parking, as well. The only part of the complex that isn’t yet complete is the track. That will be unveiled as soon as it’s complete in the Marathon Weekly, and then to the public at the first home football game scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30.
