The City of Marathon has another tool for residents and visitors who want to maintain or improve their fitness. On Dec. 29, the Parks and Recreation Department opened its new Fitness Court, developed in partnership with the National Fitness Campaign.

“If you can’t afford a gym or can’t go for whatever reason, this new court gives you an opportunity to do something on your own time,” said Marathon Parks and Recreation Director Anthony Davis. “It is an all-access pass to come get fit at your own pace, for free.”

The court features seven “stations” such as core work, squats, lunges, agility, etc. Users download the free smartphone Fitness Court app using a QR code that is incorporated into the court’s signage.  The app features a variety of 7-minute videos of structured workouts tailored to fitness levels from beginner to advanced.

The fitness court is located between the Community Park pavilion and basketball court and is open during park hours, currently dawn to 9 p.m. In the New Year, Parks and Recreation employees will be scheduling group classes to familiarize residents with the facility and its use. In the meantime, residents are free to use the court for self-directed workouts.

The fitness court was made possible with a donation from Baptist Health Foundation. Stay tuned for details about the ribbon cutting.
