The Key West Gardens at West Martello Tower on Atlantic Boulevard will host a lecture and tour by plant experts Dick Rezba and Hazel Hans on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.

Their topic is “Florida’s 12 Native Palms” and the event will include a tour of palms in the garden. The event is free and open to the public. The garden is located at Fort West Martello, 1100 Atlantic Blvd.

Rezba is a professor emeritus at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a well-known science educator who began his career as a 20-year-old science teacher in Plant City, Florida.

His background is largely in geology, but he was raised in Tampa by plant-loving parents, so he likes both rocks and plants. His passion for science was recognized throughout his career, including Outstanding Young Science Educator Award, Virginia’s award for Public Understanding of Science, and VCU’s Presidential Award for outstanding contribution to society through scholarship, public service and science.
