In pictures: Sand, sun & sugar rushes at city of Marathon’s Trick or Treat at the Beach

Sombrero Beach traded sunbathers for superheroes, sandcastles for skeletons and dive masks for dinosaurs on Oct. 23 as the city of Marathon’s second annual Trick or Treat at the Beach brought hundreds of costumed kids and their families to the shoreline.

With the beach’s scenic sidewalks transformed into a candy-coated parade of ghosts, princesses, Pokémon trainers and pint-sized monsters, local businesses, nonprofits and community groups pulled out all the stops with elaborate displays, festive decorations and enough sugary loot to keep every local dentist living large.

The city-sponsored event continued the beachfront tradition launched last year, giving Marathon families a seaside spin on the classic Halloween trick-or-treat experience. Photos by ROSS SMITH/Keys Weekly
