Two Homestead individuals were arrested on Wednesday after Monroe County sheriff’s deputies said they discovered stolen Amazon packages in their vehicle.
Deputies responded to Sound Drive at approximately 1:40 p.m. for the report of stolen packages. A witness gave a description of one of the suspects, the vehicle — a Honda sedan — and a license plate number. Security footage corroborated the witness’ statement.
The Honda sedan was stopped shortly thereafter on U.S. 1 near mile marker 105. The passenger in the vehicle, later identified as 34-year-old Jaime Jose Duarte, was wearing clothes matching those seen and described in the security footage and witness statement. Also in the vehicle was 26-year-old Anahisa Nancy Rodriguez. Deputies conducted a search and found multiple packages were observed in the Honda in plain view.
Deputies said some of the packages were addressed to another residence on Boyd Drive, where that resident also reported packages stolen.
Rodriguez was charged with grand theft from a dwelling and accessory, and Duarte was charged with grand theft from a dwelling.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be pending.
